Site Work in Kyle, TX

Site Work · Kyle, TX

Raw land made ready to drive on and build on

Site work is the dirt work that comes before a road or a house. Intex Rock and Cedar Solutions cuts ranch roads and driveways and builds house pads and building pads. Culverts go in where water has to cross under a road. We do this work on homesites and commercial jobs from Kyle out across the Hill Country.

On rocky Hill Country land, many road jobs start with rock milling. The mill grinds loose surface rock in place into 3/4 minus caliche, and that often becomes the road base. Where cedar (Ashe juniper) blocks the route, cedar clearing opens it up first.

What We Handle

  • Ranch roads cut in and graded across acreage
  • Driveways cut and graded from the road to the homesite
  • Road base ground in place from the property's own rock
  • Culverts set under roads and driveways at ditches and draws
  • House pads and building pads cleared and leveled
  • Lots graded for builders, clean and ready to start building
  • Washed-out driveways repaired and the runoff turned to the ditch
  • Holes dug for a septic installer, who puts in the system

Ranch roads and driveways on Hill Country rock

A ranch road or a driveway starts with the route. We clear the brush along it, then grind the road in with the tractor or the skid steer. The machine breaks up the rock in the road's path as it goes.

Hill Country rock often sits close to the surface. In the federal soil survey of Comal and Hays counties, Comfort soil with rock outcrop covers the most ground. In Comfort soil, limestone bedrock lies 10 to 20 inches down, and its main uses are rangeland and rural homesites.

The milled rock stays in place as the road base, so a caliche driveway uses rock the land already had. Boulders and ledge too big for the mill get broken with the hydraulic hammer first. Then we grade the road so rain runs off to the sides.

When does a driveway need a culvert?

A culvert carries water under a road where it crosses a ditch or a draw. The National Weather Service calls South-Central Texas Flash Flood Alley. Rocky hill soils shed rain fast, so a dry draw can run hard in a storm. Without a culvert, that water runs across the road and can wash it out.

Where a new driveway meets a public road, that road's owner has a say. On a state highway, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) issues the driveway permit and approves the culvert size. Inside Kyle city limits, the city lists driveways and culverts among the work that needs a permit. In other towns, ask the city's permit office first.

Outside city limits in Hays County, start with Hays County Development Services. We point you to the right office before the culvert goes in. Once the size is set, we lay the culvert and build the driveway over it.

Building pads and site prep for a new home

A building pad is the level, cleared spot a house or a barn sits on. On a wooded lot, the pad starts with land clearing. Old piers or a slab in the way come out with our light demolition work.

Then we level the pad and grade the lot so it is clean and ready to start building. On the hills, rock that sits too high gets broken out with the hammer. On the east side of Kyle, the soil map shows deep Branyon clay instead. That clay shrinks and swells with moisture, so a pad on it is a different job.

Parts of Hays County sit on the Edwards Aquifer recharge or contributing zone. There, some jobs need a plan approved by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) before the soil is disturbed. A single home on a lot larger than five acres is one of the exceptions. The state's map viewer shows where a lot sits.

How a Job With Intex Runs

From the first call or text to the finished work, here is how it goes.

Call or text

Call or text (737) 317-7625. Tell us where your land is and what needs clearing.

2

We look at the land

We come out to the property. Show us the trees to keep and where a road or pad should go.

3

Your free estimate

Your free estimate comes as a written quote. It spells out the work before anything starts.

4

The work

We bring the machines that fit your land. Cedar and brush get mulched or pushed into burn piles, and the rock mill turns loose rock into base.

5

Ground ready to use

When we finish, the ground is ready for the next step. That might be a house pad or topsoil for new grass.

FAQ

Site Work Questions, Answered

Common questions about site work around Kyle and the Texas Hill Country. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (737) 317-7625

What does site work include?
It covers the dirt work before a build or a road. That means ranch roads and driveways, culverts, house pads and building pads, washout repair and lot grading. Utility trenching for water and power lines is another trade's work.
How much does site work cost?
The price depends on how much ground the job covers and how much rock is in the way. The number of culverts and the slope of the ground move it too. We look at the land and put a free estimate in writing, so call or text (737) 317-7625. For market numbers, see our guide to gravel driveway costs in Central Texas.
Can my driveway be built from the rock already on my land?
Often, yes. The rock mill grinds loose surface rock up to 12 to 14 inches across into 3/4 minus caliche. That caliche becomes the driveway's base, so less material has to be hauled in.
Do buried lines need to be marked before site work?
Texas law requires a Texas 811 request before most machine digging 16 inches or deeper. The request goes in at least two business days ahead, and the utility companies mark their lines. Inside Kyle, the city marks its own utility lines on a separate request. Private lines, like a well line or a barn line, usually go unmarked, so show us where they run.
Can you fix a washed-out driveway?
Yes. We fill and regrade the washed-out stretch and clear back the overgrown edges. Then the runoff gets turned back to the ditch and the culvert, the path it already had. Texas law forbids diverting natural runoff onto another person's property in a way that damages it.
Can you dig for my septic system?
Yes. We dig the holes the septic installer asks for, and the house pad can be part of the same job. The septic system itself is the installer's work.

I had Intex Rock & Cedar Solutions come out and rock mill about 2 acres of my field, and they did an outstanding job. The difference before and after was incredible. They showed up when they said they would, worked hard, and treated my property like it was their own.

Outstanding job by Trey with Intex Rock & Cedar Solutions! My wife and I were in need of a spot cleared for our future home and Trey exceeded our expectations. He also helped us with removing some old existing piers and leaving the ground nice and level. Highly recommend!

We recently had them out for a major project involving cedar clearing and rock crushing, and the results are incredible. They didn't just clear the land; they transformed the terrain. Their rock milling and crushing equipment turned rough, unusable limestone into a smooth, walkable surface.
