Forestry mulching grinds standing cedar (Ashe juniper) and brush into mulch right where they grow. The mulch stays on the ground and covers the soil. Intex Rock and Cedar Solutions is based in Kyle and does forestry mulching across the Hill Country. Some people call it hydro axing or hydro mulching.
The big machine is a 400 horsepower wheeled mulcher, and it covers open acreage fast. A skid steer mulcher gets into tight spots along fences and around trees you keep. Forestry mulching is one part of our land clearing work around Kyle and pairs well with rock and road work. We work for homeowners and landowners on acreage, plus commercial and development jobs.

The state forest service says mulching lowers the risk of erosion and helps stabilize the soil. It calls mulching a useful choice for ground that erodes easily. The mulch lies on the ground like a blanket, so hard rain lands on wood chips instead of bare dirt.
As the mulch breaks down, it returns nutrients to the soil. The forest service says it also helps the ground hold moisture and keeps soil temperature steadier.
That cover counts in the Hill Country. One widespread soil here is shallow and stony over limestone, and the federal soil survey rates its runoff high. Mulch helps hold that thin soil in place.
Forestry mulching can be selective. You choose the trees that stay, and the mulchers work around them. Taking the cedar out can open up oaks that were hidden behind it.
The wheeled mulcher clears the open ground between the trees you keep. The smaller skid steer mulcher takes the close work by trunks and fence posts.
The state forest service counts damage from vehicles and construction as oak wounds. It says to avoid wounding oaks from February through June. Sap beetles that carry the oak wilt fungus are most active then. It also says to paint any fresh oak wound right away, whatever the season.
Cut-and-pile clearing pushes cedar and brush into burn piles. Those piles wait on the weather, since a county can ban outdoor burning outside city limits in a drought. Forestry mulching skips the pile. The machine turns the brush into mulch as it goes.
A dozer pushes trees over, roots and all, and turns up the soil. A mulcher leaves the roots and dirt in place and lays the mulch on top. Some owners still want burn piles, and our cedar clearing work can cut and pile instead.
The state forest service lists large rocks and very steep slopes as limits for machine mulching. Plenty of Hill Country land carries both brush and surface rock. Where rock outweighs brush, rock milling into caliche base is the better tool.

I had Intex Rock & Cedar Solutions come out and rock mill about 2 acres of my field, and they did an outstanding job. The difference before and after was incredible. They showed up when they said they would, worked hard, and treated my property like it was their own.
Outstanding job by Trey with Intex Rock & Cedar Solutions! My wife and I were in need of a spot cleared for our future home and Trey exceeded our expectations. He also helped us with removing some old existing piers and leaving the ground nice and level. Highly recommend!
We recently had them out for a major project involving cedar clearing and rock crushing, and the results are incredible. They didn't just clear the land; they transformed the terrain. Their rock milling and crushing equipment turned rough, unusable limestone into a smooth, walkable surface.
