Around Luling, overgrown land means brush more than rock. The USDA calls most of this ground claypan prairie, with dense clay under the topsoil. Its site guide names mesquite, huisache, elm and eastern red cedar among the plants that can invade it. Left alone, a pasture or a fence line can fill in with them.
Intex Rock and Cedar Solutions does land clearing in Luling as part of our service area in Caldwell County. We are based in Kyle, about 30 road miles away by I-35 and SH 80. Luling sits east of I-35, well off the limestone of the Hill Country. Within a few miles of town, the USDA soil survey maps mostly Crockett and Mabank soils. Both are deep, with a sandy loam or loam surface over clay.
That clay takes in water slowly. The survey says Mabank soils stay saturated near the surface 10 to 30 days in winter and spring. Wet clay ruts under heavy machines, so timing matters on a pad or a road.
The San Marcos River runs along the south edge of town, past the historic Zedler Mill. Along the river, the survey maps clay and clay loam bottomland, labeled occasionally or frequently flooded. Some gravelly uplands near town carry post oak and mesquite as their main woody plants.
On open pasture, the 400 horsepower wheeled mulcher grinds brush and small trees where they stand. The mulch stays on the ground. Along fence lines and around trees you keep, the skid steer mulcher works the tight spots.
Near the river, the city's paddling trail guide notes native pecan and oak along the San Marcos. If those are trees you want to keep, point them out, and the mulcher works around them. Our cedar clearing handles Hill Country cedar (Ashe juniper), and eastern red cedar comes out the same ways. Either one gets mulched in place, or cut and pushed into burn piles for you to burn.
Inside city limits, Luling's curbside brush pickup takes up to six cubic yards a month per household. Limbs must be bundled and cut to 4 feet or less. Mulching in place leaves nothing to bundle.
Luling dates to 1874 and the railroad, and oil was found northwest of town in 1922. The city's own site calls oil wells and pump jacks part of everyday life. Census estimates say more than half of today's homes were built from 1950 to 1979. Seven in ten are detached houses.
Growth here is steady but slow. The town counted 5,599 people in the 2020 Census, and the 2025 estimate is 5,920. About one in nine homes went up from 2010 on. A new house on raw land needs the brush cleared and a pad built first.
On farm and ranch land around Luling, our light demolition takes down old sheds and barns. Slabs and old foundations get broken up with the hydraulic hammer. The plan for the debris goes in the written quote.
Before a pad or a driveway goes in near the river, check the flood zone. The City of Luling reviews floodplain development inside city limits. Its development permit form asks for the flood zone and the base flood elevation.
Outside city limits, Caldwell County's Sanitation and Development Services office in Lockhart handles site construction permits. Floodplain management runs through the same office.
On this slow-draining clay, a pad or a driveway needs a plan for water. Where a driveway crosses a ditch or a draw, a culvert carries the runoff under it. We set culverts as part of the driveway work.

I had Intex Rock & Cedar Solutions come out and rock mill about 2 acres of my field, and they did an outstanding job. The difference before and after was incredible. They showed up when they said they would, worked hard, and treated my property like it was their own.
Outstanding job by Trey with Intex Rock & Cedar Solutions! My wife and I were in need of a spot cleared for our future home and Trey exceeded our expectations. He also helped us with removing some old existing piers and leaving the ground nice and level. Highly recommend!
We recently had them out for a major project involving cedar clearing and rock crushing, and the results are incredible. They didn't just clear the land; they transformed the terrain. Their rock milling and crushing equipment turned rough, unusable limestone into a smooth, walkable surface.
Trey and his guys came out with this huge mulcher and made quick work of clearing my 30 acres. They worked long hours, made sure I was happy with everything before leaving, fair pricing, and very easy to work with. Highly recommend!
Trey and Intex did a great job on clearing my property. Up front and honest on pricing. Showed up on time when they said they would. Went above and beyond on the work I asked them to do. Great company.
I had my drive way get washed out during a bad storm and we couldn't get off the property without bottoming out. Trey came out and fixed our road and diverted future run off in the problem area to the ditch and culvert. While he was out he also took the time to clear branches and sticks from the side of the road to open up our drive that was getting over grown.
