Raw land around Johnson City is hard to use as it comes. Cedar (Ashe juniper) closes in on pastures and fence lines, and loose limestone litters the ground. Beneath the loose rock, the soil is thin, and bedrock often sits about a foot down. A mower blade hits rock, and a tiller stops at the ledge.
Intex Rock and Cedar Solutions is a land clearing company based in Kyle. Johnson City is part of our service area, about an hour west of Kyle through Dripping Springs. Here we take cedar off pastures and homesites, and we grind the loose rock into a usable base. Call or text (737) 317-7625 for a free estimate.

Federal soil maps from NRCS put much of the town on the Tarpley-Eckrant complex, a stony clay over limestone bedrock. NRCS describes the Eckrant soil as very cobbly clay. On the hills outside town, Brackett soils sit over Glen Rose limestone, often in stair-step benches. The deeper Krum clay lies mostly on stream terraces.
That rock can become the base your project needs. Our rock milling grinds the loose surface rock into 3/4 minus caliche right where it lies. Rocks up to 12 to 14 inches across go through the tractor-mounted mill. Boulders and thick ledge get broken with the hydraulic hammer first.
The milled ground can become a driveway or a level yard ready for topsoil. You use what is already on the land instead of hauling material in.
The 2020 Census counted 1,627 people in Johnson City. The Census Bureau's estimate for 2025 is 2,127. Blanco County grew from 11,374 people in 2020 to an estimated 13,581 in 2025.
Census survey figures show about 6 in 10 homes in town are single-family houses. About 1 in 5 is a mobile home. About a quarter of the homes went up before 1970. About 4 in 10 were built from 2000 to 2019.
The city's 2016 land use plan counted the land inside the city limits and in the zone just outside them. About 61 percent of it was agriculture or open space. The plan expected growth along US 290, which is Main Street, and along US 281.
A new home on open land needs a building pad and a way in. Our site work cuts and grades both. The property's own milled rock often becomes the base.
Inside the city limits, the city's Development Services Department handles building permits and plats. Its residential permit list asks for drainage culvert plans. A driveway onto a state highway, such as US 281 or US 290, needs TxDOT review and approval. The city's design manual calls for a grading permit before anyone stockpiles material or fills property in town.
The city's 2016 plan puts about 140 acres inside the city limits in the 100-year FEMA flood hazard area. The Pedernales River runs just north of town. Texas Parks and Wildlife warns that the river can go from a placid stream to a raging torrent in minutes. FEMA's flood maps show whether a lot sits in a flood zone.
Outside the city limits, Blanco County's Development Services page carries the septic application and the county's development rules. Burn bans in the unincorporated county come from the commissioners court, and state law caps each order at 90 days. The county website posts the burn ban status and asks people to call before any burning.
Texas 811 asks for a call at least two business days before any digging. Utilities mark their own lines, but lines that serve only your property may go unmarked. Show us the well line and the septic before work starts.
Cedar is the other half of the job here. The state's brush plan says grass production generally drops where cedar moves into rangeland. Our cedar clearing takes it off pastures and homesites.
We start by looking at the land with you and marking the oaks and other trees you keep. We mulch the cedar where it stands, or we push it into burn piles for you.
On open acreage, the 400 horsepower wheeled mulcher grinds cedar and brush where they stand. The skid steer mulcher works close to fences and the trees you keep. With forestry mulching, the mulch stays on the ground as cover.
The Texas A and M Forest Service says land or cedar clearing can wound oaks and let oak wilt in. It advises against wounding oaks from February through June and says to paint any wound right away. If your land has oaks, ask about timing when we look at the job.

I had Intex Rock & Cedar Solutions come out and rock mill about 2 acres of my field, and they did an outstanding job. The difference before and after was incredible. They showed up when they said they would, worked hard, and treated my property like it was their own.
Outstanding job by Trey with Intex Rock & Cedar Solutions! My wife and I were in need of a spot cleared for our future home and Trey exceeded our expectations. He also helped us with removing some old existing piers and leaving the ground nice and level. Highly recommend!
We recently had them out for a major project involving cedar clearing and rock crushing, and the results are incredible. They didn't just clear the land; they transformed the terrain. Their rock milling and crushing equipment turned rough, unusable limestone into a smooth, walkable surface.
Trey and his guys came out with this huge mulcher and made quick work of clearing my 30 acres. They worked long hours, made sure I was happy with everything before leaving, fair pricing, and very easy to work with. Highly recommend!
Trey and Intex did a great job on clearing my property. Up front and honest on pricing. Showed up on time when they said they would. Went above and beyond on the work I asked them to do. Great company.
I had my drive way get washed out during a bad storm and we couldn't get off the property without bottoming out. Trey came out and fixed our road and diverted future run off in the problem area to the ditch and culvert. While he was out he also took the time to clear branches and sticks from the side of the road to open up our drive that was getting over grown.
