Land Clearing, Rock Milling and Forestry Mulching in Blanco

Land clearing in Blanco usually means two jobs at once, cedar and rock. Cedar (Ashe juniper) and brush crowd many pastures and homesites around town. Under them, NRCS soil maps show thin soil over limestone. Cutting a road or a pad here often turns up loose rock and ledge.

Intex Rock and Cedar Solutions is a land clearing company based in Kyle, about an hour's drive from Blanco. Blanco is part of our service area, along with the ranch land around it. We mulch cedar where it stands and grind surface rock into a usable base. Call or text (737) 317-7625 to set up a free estimate.

Thin soil over limestone around Blanco

On NRCS soil maps, Brackett soils cover the most ground around Blanco. They formed from weathered limestone, and soft rock sits about 14 inches down. Doss and Purves soils are common too, with rock about 16 to 17 inches down. Deeper Krum clay lies on the stream terraces.

NRCS also maps some ground near town as stony, with loose stones on the surface. Loose rock like this is what our rock milling handles. The tractor-mounted mill grinds rock up to 12 to 14 inches across into 3/4 minus caliche. Boulders and ledge get broken with the hydraulic hammer first.

The milled rock stays on the land as a base for a house pad or a ranch road. NOAA normals for Blanco show about 35 inches of rain a year. May is the wettest month, and July is the driest.

A growing town on US 281 and the Blanco River

Blanco sits on US 281 and the spring-fed Blanco River, 12 miles south of Johnson City. It was the county seat until 1890, when Johnson City won an election for it. Blanco State Park hugs a one-mile stretch of the river. Low ground near the river can sit in the 100-year floodplain, which has its own building rules.

The Census Bureau counted 1,682 people in Blanco in 2020. Its estimate for 2025 is 2,108, about a quarter more. Census survey figures show the median home in town was built in 1982. About 2 in 3 homes in town are single-family houses.

By Census estimates, most of Blanco County's growth from 2020 to 2025 came outside its towns. Across the county, nearly half of all homes were built in 2000 or later. County rules set a 5-acre minimum for new subdivision lots on a private well and septic system. Those lots also need 250 feet of road frontage.

Which rules apply to land clearing in Blanco?

Blanco's development code covers the city limits and the ETJ, a band of land just outside town. There, development needs a site development permit from the city before work starts. Farm work and most single-family homes are on the code's list of exemptions. City Hall can tell you which rule fits your lot.

The code also limits clearing on a development site before its plat is approved. Brush may come off to lay out roads and lots, but only with rubber-tired equipment. That early work must leave the soil surface intact. Farm and ranch work on land with an ag tax exemption is exempt from those limits.

Outside the city, a new driveway onto a county road needs a permit from the county commissioner's office. When a private driveway needs a culvert, county rules set the minimum size at 15 inches. TxDOT approves driveways onto state highways like US 281. Our site work cuts and grades ranch roads and driveways, and sets culverts.

How we clear land around Blanco

Every job starts with a call or a text, then a look at the land with you. You show us the trees that stay, like the big oaks. Then we put a free estimate in writing.

On open acreage, the 400 horsepower wheeled mulcher grinds cedar and brush into mulch where they stand. The skid steer mulcher works fence lines and tight spots near the trees you keep. If you would rather burn, our cedar clearing can push the cut cedar into piles for you. The burning stays with you, and a county burn ban can put it on hold.

I had Intex Rock & Cedar Solutions come out and rock mill about 2 acres of my field, and they did an outstanding job. The difference before and after was incredible. They showed up when they said they would, worked hard, and treated my property like it was their own.

Outstanding job by Trey with Intex Rock & Cedar Solutions! My wife and I were in need of a spot cleared for our future home and Trey exceeded our expectations. He also helped us with removing some old existing piers and leaving the ground nice and level. Highly recommend!

We recently had them out for a major project involving cedar clearing and rock crushing, and the results are incredible. They didn't just clear the land; they transformed the terrain. Their rock milling and crushing equipment turned rough, unusable limestone into a smooth, walkable surface.

Trey and his guys came out with this huge mulcher and made quick work of clearing my 30 acres. They worked long hours, made sure I was happy with everything before leaving, fair pricing, and very easy to work with. Highly recommend!

Trey and Intex did a great job on clearing my property. Up front and honest on pricing. Showed up on time when they said they would. Went above and beyond on the work I asked them to do. Great company.

I had my drive way get washed out during a bad storm and we couldn't get off the property without bottoming out. Trey came out and fixed our road and diverted future run off in the problem area to the ditch and culvert. While he was out he also took the time to clear branches and sticks from the side of the road to open up our drive that was getting over grown.

Blanco FAQ

Questions We Hear Around Blanco

A few of the questions we hear most around Blanco. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (737) 317-7625

What does land clearing cost near Blanco?
The land sets the price, so we look at it before we quote. Acreage and the thickness of the cedar move the number. Rock and steep ground add time, and so do the trees you keep. We put a free estimate in writing, and a call or text to (737) 317-7625 sets one up.
Can I burn cedar piles near Blanco?
Check before you light one, and inside the city limits, ask City Hall. The Blanco County Commissioners Court can ban outdoor burning in the unincorporated county during dry spells. Breaking a ban order is a Class C misdemeanor. Forestry mulching grinds the cedar where it stands, and the mulch stays on the ground.
Can you clear cedar and keep my live oaks?
Yes, oaks and the other trees you pick stay standing. The Texas A and M Forest Service warns that cedar clearing can wound an oak and let oak wilt in. It advises against wounding oaks from February through June. Blanco County's development rules say a wound on an oak that can catch oak wilt must be painted right away.
Do you work outside the Blanco city limits?
Yes. Ranch land along US 281, RR 165, RR 1623 and RR 32 is part of our service area. That reaches out toward Twin Sisters and Henly. Tell us the road and the acreage when you call or text.
What about buried lines on my land near Blanco?
Texas 811 asks for a call two business days before digging, not counting weekends and holidays. The utility companies mark their own public lines. A private well line or septic line is the owner's to point out, so show us yours before work starts.
